Introduction of the Japan Textile Machinery Society and 48th Textile Research Symposium

Textile Research Symposium (TRS) is an international symposium organized by The Textile Machinery Society of Japan. The TRS was initiated in 1972 by two world-renowned academics, Professor Sueo Kawabata, Kyoto University and Professor Masako Niwa, Nara Women’s University, to bring together researchers in the field of textiles from academia and industry. Their main aim was to rejuvenate the fading emphasis for the importance of textile education in the Japanese Education System. The TRS has become a well-known international annual symposium with long history covering a wide range of textile research fields from fiber science, apparel engineering to management. This symposium is playing an important role in bridging the communication gap and forging friendship between textile scientists, engineers and all relevant people from all over the world.
The TRS continues to be held annually even after the retirement of Prof. Kawabata and Prof. Niwa. In recent years, the TRS has been held in Japan and overseas countries alternately. Up to now, the TRS was successfully held seven times in six overseas countries, i.e. Hangzhou in China (2006), Daegu in Korea (2008), Delhi in India (2010, 2016), Guimaraes in Portugal (2012), Christ Church in New Zealand (2014) and Liberec in Czech Republic (2019).
Although the 48th TRS was originally planned to be held in Shanghai, China in 2020, the organizing committee decided to postpone it to 2021 because of the COVID-19. Unfortunately, the world-wide pandemic has not been converged yet, and the organizing committee decided to hold the 48th TRS on-line. Now, all organizing committee members are preparing for successful and fruitful organization of the 48th TRS so that the members of TMSJ as well as many textile researchers from all over the world can join.

TRS consists of many sessions covering from upstream to downstream of textiles. The 48th TRS has 11 sessions as follows; (1) Fiber Science and Engineering, (2) Nano Fibers, (3) Dyeing and Finishing, (4) Science and Technology of Textile Machinery, (5) Composite Material, (6) Nonwoven and Industrial Textile, (7) Apparel Science and Protective clothing, (8) Smart Textile and IoT, (9) Textile Testing and Comfort on Textiles products, (10) Environment and Sustainability, (11) Simulation and Virtual Textile.

Brief plan of the 48th Textile Research Symposium

Now, the organized committee has scheduled 8 – 9 December, 2021 for holding 48th TRS in on-line. The 48th TRS will be programed with 1 plenary speak, and about 2 keynote talks on each session.

TRS is organized by Textile Machinery Society of Japan (TMSJ) as a non-profit charitable organization, TMSJ is afraid it isn’t much but would like to provide the lecture’s fee in order to acknowledge your great support.
